“There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
    Like a, shoebox of photographs
    With sepiatone loving
    Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart”

    ~ Better Together, Jack Johnson

With an hour for creatives, we made the most of the time by shooting at a nearby lagoon where the rocks and water added a sense of fun and calm. While it was too cloudy for a sunset shoot, the clouds were stunning.   The newlyweds were happy to relax and enjoy some of their first moments as husband & wife (as long as the dress didn’t get dirty!)

    Welcome Mr & Mrs Wong

Philana + Gary opened their reception with their first dance.  To celebrate their travels (and make it just a lil bit harder for guests to request a kiss) Philana + Gary locked lips only when someone named a place they had traveled together.  Finn, of camera lens mischief earlier in the day, was first to the podium, proudly declaring ‘France’ as an answer.

Always thoughtful, Philana + Gary had a photo booth, complete with costumes and props, to keep the kids entertained.  And a candy bar to keep the kids going ;)  Cameron, the flower girl, was so pleased with her photos she rushed over to show us – we loved the goofy shots! Thanks for sharing Cameron!

The wedding games were light-hearted and everyone had a laugh when Philana answered ‘July’ and Gary answered ‘August’ to the question ‘when did Gary propose?’  Typical of Gary, responsible enough to know it was a summer month but not romantic enough to know exactly when.

The speeches gave everyone insight into Philana + Gary’s personalities.  Philana, patient, caring, globe-trotter and bargain hunter extraordinaire is a loving romantic.  Gary was touted as the perfect guy; family-focused, responsible, career-orientated, handyman and an excellent cook.  Careful not to oversell, Vic added that Gary is also a man of few words and little sense of humor before stating that love must be deaf as Philana was impressed by Gary’s sense of humor.

Philana’s parents ended their speech with a surprise – they had youtube’d traditional Hawaiian dances and got the guests dancing along with them while Philana, shocked by her parents technological adeptness and dance ability, laughed and joined in.

Grandpa Gary, as his friends call their sensible, responsible friend, was encouraged to enjoy his wedding day and ‘hang loose’.  Taking his friend’s advice, Gary took part in the ‘who can dance better’ game and while he lost out on the Hershey’s Kisses with macadamia nuts and Kona coffee to Bobby and Fred, his bride was proud.

“To an island where we’ll meet
You’ll hear the music fill the air
I’ll put a flower in your hair

Through the breezes through the trees
Move so pretty, you’re all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

Lucky I’m in love with my best friend”

~ Lucky performed by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait

There were literally over 100 doves flying around us as newlyweds Denise + David danced around the cliff top and never stopped grinning for a moment.  Rina had a near miss with when a mango fell just inches from her head (poor girl, she does suffer for her art!) but avoiding falling fruit & ‘presents’ from the doves was well worth it to enjoy those first sweet moments with Denise + David as husband + wife.

Frederic, the owner of this private estate, had trained these doves by hand feeding them daily. Denise + David also had a chance to hang out with the birds, one on one, with clusters of sunflower seeds in hand.

Edmonton Wedding PhotographyOver this cliff is a shear 200 ft drop into the ocean. Luckily they’re not afraid of heights….(and they’re certified Scuba Divers, with years of experience free diving. 😀 )

Little did David know that it was his father, Michael, who was the mastermind behind the wet surprise. We conveniently posed them for a group shot near the faucet.  =)

Denise + David’s 23 guests enjoyed appetizers and the sight of doves flying from the clifftop during the couples creative shoot.  Denise + David then joined their guests for a sunset buffet.  The bridal party as well as immediate family members gave speeches that spoke to how well-matched Denise + David are; the amazing, talented creative married to a genius engineer.   While Denise was nicknamed Shifty by older brother Craig for all the creative ideas she’d come up with, David and his groomsmen were also crafting up experiments with their engineering brains.  The speeches alternatively brought on laughter, tears and hugs.

Capping off their amazing day, Denise + David had fire dancers (nearly topless fire dancers as well to the delight of Denise’s niece!)

Balancing off the fire dancers of Part II is an Infused Studios first (here’s a hint, it involves water).  That & Denise + David show off their adventurous side.

    Love. You. Always.

  • Denise + David :: Way Up High (Maui, Hawaii) Part I of III

Edmonton Wedding PhotographersAfter a 10-year courtship, including a 5-year engagement, Denise + David’s Hawaiian nuptials at an ocean-front estate were the perfect reflection of them; relaxed, gorgeous, outdoorsy and incredibly heart-warming.  Everyday was an adventure for Denise + David, their family & friends, whether it was scuba diving with the manta rays, swimming with the turtles (duuuuude, Anton’s favourite) , kayaking, surfing or snorkeling with the fishes, they enjoyed all that Hawaii had to offer.

Denise and her two bridesmaids, Tammy and Shilo, have been friends since Junior High.  They spent the morning together getting ready and having their make up done by Clara, Crispin’s (one of David’s groomsmen) wife.  Although the girls woke early, the boys weren’t quite as prompt and didn’t arrive with food until noon.

David and his groomsmen, Crispin & Alec, got ready in the reception tent.  While Crispin’s wife was styling the girls, he was styling the groom and persuaded David to put some gel in his hair – a first for David!

David’s fashion faux pas isn’t just wearing socks with sandals, it’s wearing black socks with sandals.  Denise was adamant that he wouldn’t do that on their wedding day…

so he took them off before the ceremony 😉

The ceremony took place on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  Denise arrived a bit more than fashionably late, and although Tammy & Shilo remarked that Denise is always late for things, this time it was them making her late as they were having last minute touches done to their make up.  David’s grin said it all the moment he saw his bride coming down the aisle and Tammy’s teary eyes were waterworks by the time  she reached the altar.

Reverend Ken not only married Denise + David, he also serenaded them with his rendition of  ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’ on the ukulele.  Following the musical interlude, Denise + David exchanged their handwritten vows.
