“There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
    Like a, shoebox of photographs
    With sepiatone loving
    Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart”

    ~ Better Together, Jack Johnson

With an hour for creatives, we made the most of the time by shooting at a nearby lagoon where the rocks and water added a sense of fun and calm. While it was too cloudy for a sunset shoot, the clouds were stunning.   The newlyweds were happy to relax and enjoy some of their first moments as husband & wife (as long as the dress didn’t get dirty!)

    Welcome Mr & Mrs Wong

Philana + Gary opened their reception with their first dance.  To celebrate their travels (and make it just a lil bit harder for guests to request a kiss) Philana + Gary locked lips only when someone named a place they had traveled together.  Finn, of camera lens mischief earlier in the day, was first to the podium, proudly declaring ‘France’ as an answer.

Always thoughtful, Philana + Gary had a photo booth, complete with costumes and props, to keep the kids entertained.  And a candy bar to keep the kids going ;)  Cameron, the flower girl, was so pleased with her photos she rushed over to show us – we loved the goofy shots! Thanks for sharing Cameron!

The wedding games were light-hearted and everyone had a laugh when Philana answered ‘July’ and Gary answered ‘August’ to the question ‘when did Gary propose?’  Typical of Gary, responsible enough to know it was a summer month but not romantic enough to know exactly when.

The speeches gave everyone insight into Philana + Gary’s personalities.  Philana, patient, caring, globe-trotter and bargain hunter extraordinaire is a loving romantic.  Gary was touted as the perfect guy; family-focused, responsible, career-orientated, handyman and an excellent cook.  Careful not to oversell, Vic added that Gary is also a man of few words and little sense of humor before stating that love must be deaf as Philana was impressed by Gary’s sense of humor.

Philana’s parents ended their speech with a surprise – they had youtube’d traditional Hawaiian dances and got the guests dancing along with them while Philana, shocked by her parents technological adeptness and dance ability, laughed and joined in.

Grandpa Gary, as his friends call their sensible, responsible friend, was encouraged to enjoy his wedding day and ‘hang loose’.  Taking his friend’s advice, Gary took part in the ‘who can dance better’ game and while he lost out on the Hershey’s Kisses with macadamia nuts and Kona coffee to Bobby and Fred, his bride was proud.

  • Angela + Jimmy :: Shine (Edmonton, AB) Part I of II

    Words by Maureen Young

The aspiring students’ union member and the pretty nursing student wed on a crisp autumn day.  Although it was late October, not a whisper of snow was in sight.  Joined by Jimmy’s parents and sister from Dubai as well as family + friends a bit closer to home, Angela + Jimmy’s wedding merged the Christian ceremony with the East Indian celebration perfectly.

Hair and make-up were brought to Angela’s parents house.   Angela + her 5 bridesmaids spent the morning in giggles as they shared both stories and Angela’s excitement about her big day.  Angela’s gown had a beaded halter and neckline which was perfectly accented by the beautiful bangles on her wrist.  No wonder Angela’s mom was in tears when she saw her stunning daughter walk down the stairs of the family home!

Jimmy’s 5 groomsmen, as well as his dad, joined him at home to get ready.  Getting ready at home meant Jimmy + Angela’s dogs could share in part of the excitement as they weren’t involved in the ceremony or reception.  Making sure his son looked perfect, Jimmy’s dad was on hand to help Jimmy with his tie.  Jimmy, in turn, inspected each of his groomsmen to ensure they were immaculate before setting off for the church.

Angela + Jimmy, along with her bridesmaids, decorated the church the day before.  The deep purple of Jimmy’s tie was woven throughout the church and brought to life by wisps of tulle, golden berries and brightly coloured flowers.  Angela walked down the candlelit aisle with her father.  She glowed, Jimmy looked like the happiest man on earth (on the verge of tears).

After the ceremony and family portraits, we all hopped in the limo for a (not so) short trip to a location we had scouted earlier for some creative shots of Jimmy + Angela and their bridal party.  As Jimmy is from Dubai, he wanted to have photos with Edmonton’s skyline in the background so we scouted out a great location in advance.  Unfortunately, the limo driver couldn’t quite find the same location.  Even after the 45 minute detour, everyone was in great spirits and looking amazing.

  • Kate + Will :: Royal Wedding Recap (London, England)

    By Maureen Young

    Royal Wedding collage

Apologies for the rather lack lustre image quality of the collage above, I’m afraid a hand held digital camera isn’t sterling quality!  Last week Infused Studios’ Facebook, Twitter and blog were all abuzz with the Royal Wedding and for those who didn’t get the exclusive coverage on Facebook, this is a curated collection of images that I felt best reflected the atmosphere, the love story and the pomp and circumstance the British are so well known for.

After 6 hours on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace, having climbed over fences and gone through gates (all while wearing a pencil skirt!), being there for the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge’s first public kiss was incredibly heart warming because, like all newlyweds, they faced a crowd shouting for a kiss, albeit their crowd was a fair bit larger than the average wedding!

Things I loved about the Royal Wedding:

    • It was an absolute expression of the bride & groom; Kate + Will were actively involved in the decor, flowers etc
    • Individual components had a lot of meaning; Kate’s dress was embroidered with the national flowers of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
    • It suited the venue and occasion.  I (and I’m incredibly sad to admit this) saw some of The Big Fat Gypsy Royal Wedding where the gown was too large to go down the aisle.  Similarly, with a venue the size and height of Westminster, trees were appropriate
    • The heritage; the engagement ring was a family heirloom, the wedding band made of Welsh gold as all Royal wedding bands in the past were.  The car taking Kate to Westminster was the one used by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall on their wedding day & the carriage taking Kate + Will to Buckingham Palace was used by Prince Charles and Princess Diana.  Kate & Pippa’s earrings were commissioned by their mum, Kate’s incorporating design elements from her newly minted crest.
    • She managed to keep The Dress a secret.  Love it when the groom and guests are all equally wowed when a bride enters the venue

    Ideas that inspired me:

    • Peronalised favours.  Granted these were made by companies looking to cash in on the Royal Wedding, but there are some fantastic ideas for wedding favours; mugs, flags, plates, playing cards….
    • Have multiple parties.  Yes, cost is a major consideration but not all parties need to be created equal.  For destination couples especially, a low key celebration back home means the world to family & friends who couldn’t make it.  It gives greater opportunity to be inclusive with the guest list.
    • Incorporate your history.  There is something especially magical about including elements that belong to family members, or your personal history
    • a DIY scrapbook with a sense of humour, ref Kate Middleton for the Win.
    • Having a photobooth? Include fascinators as part of the fancy dress items for guests to enjoy.

Did you watch the Royal Wedding?  What are your favourite moments, ideas and inspiration?

    xo

PS – thanks to everyone who Liked the Royal Wedding album!  Your encouragement meant I got to take part in one of the biggest love stories of this decade – being on The Mall last Friday was incredible!  Check out http://www.facebook.com/infusedstudios for a video I took of the second kiss (the first one did happen super quick!)
