“There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
    Like a, shoebox of photographs
    With sepiatone loving
    Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart”

    ~ Better Together, Jack Johnson

With an hour for creatives, we made the most of the time by shooting at a nearby lagoon where the rocks and water added a sense of fun and calm. While it was too cloudy for a sunset shoot, the clouds were stunning.   The newlyweds were happy to relax and enjoy some of their first moments as husband & wife (as long as the dress didn’t get dirty!)

    Welcome Mr & Mrs Wong

Philana + Gary opened their reception with their first dance.  To celebrate their travels (and make it just a lil bit harder for guests to request a kiss) Philana + Gary locked lips only when someone named a place they had traveled together.  Finn, of camera lens mischief earlier in the day, was first to the podium, proudly declaring ‘France’ as an answer.

Always thoughtful, Philana + Gary had a photo booth, complete with costumes and props, to keep the kids entertained.  And a candy bar to keep the kids going ;)  Cameron, the flower girl, was so pleased with her photos she rushed over to show us – we loved the goofy shots! Thanks for sharing Cameron!

The wedding games were light-hearted and everyone had a laugh when Philana answered ‘July’ and Gary answered ‘August’ to the question ‘when did Gary propose?’  Typical of Gary, responsible enough to know it was a summer month but not romantic enough to know exactly when.

The speeches gave everyone insight into Philana + Gary’s personalities.  Philana, patient, caring, globe-trotter and bargain hunter extraordinaire is a loving romantic.  Gary was touted as the perfect guy; family-focused, responsible, career-orientated, handyman and an excellent cook.  Careful not to oversell, Vic added that Gary is also a man of few words and little sense of humor before stating that love must be deaf as Philana was impressed by Gary’s sense of humor.

Philana’s parents ended their speech with a surprise – they had youtube’d traditional Hawaiian dances and got the guests dancing along with them while Philana, shocked by her parents technological adeptness and dance ability, laughed and joined in.

Grandpa Gary, as his friends call their sensible, responsible friend, was encouraged to enjoy his wedding day and ‘hang loose’.  Taking his friend’s advice, Gary took part in the ‘who can dance better’ game and while he lost out on the Hershey’s Kisses with macadamia nuts and Kona coffee to Bobby and Fred, his bride was proud.

  • WPPI 2013 :: Awards Night and Acceptance Speech

    Hello from Las Vegas,

Anthony and I are so happy to be sharing this exciting news with our friends and clients. Those close to us know we are soft-spoken when it comes to our personal and business lives. (Haha, which means our Facebook pages are usually pretty boring 😀 ) However, we feel that it’s important to acknowledge everyone who has graciously touched us in our photography journey.

Every year, Anthony and I join 20,000+ other photographers from all over the world for  the world’s largest wedding and portrait photography convention (WPPI) for one week of seminars and competitions at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas. We make it our personal goal every year to attend WPPI to be inspired by, and rekindle friendships with, our fellow photographers. (Plus, there are lots of new camera toys to try and freebies offered by our vendors, not to mention the epic after-parties!)

To our surprise, on March 13, 2013 we were honoured by the highest of WPPI Awards. We were recognized for 4 awards including two 1st place awards in the Wedding Album and Engagement Album categories. We also took home two 3rd place awards in the Engagement and Informal categories.  Anthony and I had the chance to share two unexpected moments at the podium and needless to say, we were humbled beyond words.

Here is the raw audio footage from our acceptance speech with a full slide-show of our 1st Place Engagement and 1st Place Wedding Albums. Special shout-out to Yao Zeng for capturing these moments of us on stage.

First, we want to say a BIG THANK YOU, to all of our clients; if it weren’t for you guys, we wouldn’t be here. Thank you for your dedication and for trusting our crazy vision. Big group hug. xoxo

We also want to thank Maureen, who has been our marketing ninja from the very start. Maureen, you have been our right and left-hand when it comes to our writing and getting us out there. Thanks for making us sound much better than what we are in person. LOL, English is not our first language. You are the best and words can’t thank you enough.

Photography is more than just business or art . It’s our lifestyle, our passion, and a way for Anthony and I to share our stories. We’re very blessed to be able to travel and connect with people from all different walks of life.

Thank you all for this humbling experience, which we hold dear to our hearts.

    Cheers!

    Love. You. Always.

    – Rina + Anthony

Not only did we have a fun shooting on the roof top with Lisa & Drew under the stars, but there was also a full moon! (Bonus points for added romance). Thank you Lisa & Drew for a wonderful day and we look forward to your wedding in Aug.
