“Life is too short to live alone
Without someone to call my own
I will care for you, you will care for me
    Our love will live forever”

~ Shower me with your love, Surface

We love having the time and opportunity to do a Creative session with our couples.  It gives us a chance to tell their love story in a new light and the gorgeous red Mexican sunset was quite the light!  It was Lan + Troy’s dream to have photos taken during a Mexican sunset and the weather seemed uncooperative with overcast skies and occassional showers throughout the day.  Newlywed magic worked like a charm and we had about 20 minutes where the clouds parted.  Lan + Troy were fantastic, from their tender embraces to flirty fun in the surf with a bit of trash the dress thrown in.  The heat meant that we shot the creatives the day after the wedding, which gave us a fantastic opportunity to capture Lan + Troy’s first day as husband and wife.  If the rest of your marriage is even a fraction of the love and fun that you two had during this shoot, it’s going to be one amazing marriage.

P.S. When those grandkids Lan’s dad is looking forward to arrive, we’d be honoured to do a maternity shoot with you guys!

    Your dear friends,

    ~Anton + Rina

This shot was nail biting for us!  The tide was rushing towards us and while we were afraid our equipment would be soaked or Rina would be swept off with the waves (thank goodness she was holding the flash, at least she’d be easy to find!) it was worth it to have Lan + Troy in the spotlight against the beautiful sky.

Another favorite was this completely unscripted image – truly a picture perfect sunset to ride off into.  The amber moon reflects off the now calm waves and the tender embrace directly below the moon draws the eye to the couple.

“But I do know that I love you
And I know that if you love me too
What a wonderful world this would be”

    ~ Wonderful World, Sam Cooke

Ceremony done? Good, it’s waaaay too hot to be in a shirt!  At least that was the view Jesse’s friends Eric and Owen took as they stripped off to have a photo taken with the newlyweds and had some of the bystanders going ‘Ooooh.’  We made the most of the beautiful (albeit hot!) weather and took bridal portraits on the beach before having a quick lunch and continuing on with photos around the resort prior to the reception.  Big thanks to Colin & Albert for keeping us well hydrated throughout!

Rina asked the bridal party to pull a goofy face & all the groomsmen paid tribute to Jesse.  They pulled a Jesse face; tight eyes and a big, teeth showing grin.

Thunderstorms meant the planned pool-side reception was moved indoors but there was no lack of lit ambiance as guests arrived down a candlelit path.  Colin and Helen MC’d the reception, with Colin introducing the Groomsmen in a hockey style reference before introducing the main event…

“It’s time for the main event of the evening. This match-up will consist of the one round lasting the rest of their lives. In the blue corner, standing at 50 pounds, hailing from Edmonton, AB. Please give a warm hockey welcome to Jesse “Game Over” Li.”

Each member of the bridal party gave a speech; recounting their personal memories of the individuals and a memory of them as a couple. Anita’s sister Cindy recounted how the couple first met at her Grade 12 grad, where Jesse’s cousin was also graduating.  Sat at the same table, Anita thought Jesse was a jerk for talking to everyone at the table but her.  Method in his madness, Jesse was simply too tongue-tied to talk to the best looking girl at the table but fortunately fessed up to his cousin who, with Cindy’s help, got Jesse and Anita talking via MSN.

During the couple’s speech, a very emotional Jesse broke down in tears.  The guys were impressed seeing their friend overcome by emotion and unfortunately for Jesse, more than just our cameras caught the moment for prosperity’s sake.

After their emotional speech, Anita + Jesse took to the dance floor and got the party going.  A cigar maker showed everyone not getting their groove on how to hand roll cigars and all the guests had a Dominican cigar as a wedding favour.

Having a meteorologist as an MC meant we were well informed that the night’s fore-casted thundershowers were well underway.  That didn’t stop Anita + Jesse from absolutely rocking a rain soaked shot sheltered by a very fashionable looking garbage bag!  Way to rock it guys!!!

    Lotsa Love,

  • Anita + Jesse :: Hot in Here (Part I of III)

    Words by Maureen Young

Edmonton Wedding PhotographyWe’re back again!  We were stoked to fly out to the Dominican for Lucy + Jimmy’s wedding earlier this year & it was great to be back for Anita + Jesse’s amazing destination wedding.   It may have been the same setting but a new love story, Anita + Jesse’s, gave it a different dimension and we’re so  honoured to have been there to capture these fun-loving goofballs as they start a new chapter in their love story.  We arrived 4 days prior to the wedding, along with Anita + Jesse’s friends.  Family arrived a day later & it was 4 days to celebrate the stag & stagette (which we were honoured to be guests of!), adventures and non-stop laughs.

We love getting to know our couples so the creative direction really complements their unique styles and personalities.  Arriving with Anita+Jesse and having 4 days to spare meant we had time to share in their celebrations and we’re glad we could be there for those unscripted moments.

The day before the wedding, Anita was treated out to a day at Doctor Fish.  The girls had a blast being pampered with massages, an ocean Jacuzzi and (a bit gross for our tastes!) little fishes eating the dead skin off their feet.

The day of the wedding,  the girls gathered in Cindy’s room (the boys were in Anita + Jesse’s room) to get ready at 8am.  Talented bridesmaid Wendy helped the girls get their hair and make-up done.

When the flowers were delivered sans-flower for Anita’s hair, Pam rang the guys room & groomsman Ray went to the rescue, in his wedding attire.  Rather than going to the hotel staff to sort it out, Ray sourced the flowers himself (i.e. he picked them from the garden) & delivered them to Anita’s room.

Jesse’s perfectly ironed shirt, courtesy of expert ironer & groomsman Adrian, was going to be worn fresh from the package (yes, it still had its tags on) except that the suitcase wrinkled it.  While Adrian, under Dan’s careful observation, saw to it that Jesse looked immaculate, Jesse had a chance to eat breakfast while Ray & Hector finished getting ready.  Ray was soon regretting his speed at getting dressed when he found himself having to re-iron his shirt while being paparazii’d by Jesse’s dad after saving Anita’s hairstyle with instant flower delivery.

The ceremony took place on the beach, where sunbathers couldn’t help but take a sneaky peek.  The girls arrived fashionably late looking amazing and the bridal party walked down the aisle in pairs.

Ray swears it was the sunscreen that brought tears to his eyes when Anita joined Jesse at the altar.  Ask any of the other groomsmen though and they’ll tell you they were tears of jealousy.  Jesse is known for having a bit of a man crush on his mates and when it comes to Ray, they reckon the feeling’s mutual 😉

Helen, one of the MCs for the night, summed up Anita + Jesse’s love story beautifully, “… they are made for each other. Being with them and watching them together, you can see that they fill in the missing spaces inside each other and in turn bring out an even better person in each of them.”

More smiles to come when we catch the bridal party pulling funny faces in Part II.

    Much love,

    A+R
